The Chaos story is the second continuity Treyarch ran in parallel, introduced in Black Ops 4 alongside the returning Aether maps. It follows Scarlett Rhodes, a 1910s adventurer searching for her missing father, and her crew — Bruno Delacroix, Diego Necalli and Stanton Shaw — as they hunt the four Sentinel Artifacts across mythologically charged settings.
Its arc spans IX, a Roman gladiatorial arena; Voyage of Despair, the sinking Titanic; Dead of the Night, a haunted English manor; and Ancient Evil, the cliffs of Delphi. The crew is opposed by the Order, a secret society tied to Scarlett’s father Alistair, and by the elemental forces the Artifacts unleash.
Chaos was left incomplete. Black Ops 4 was the last game to run it, and when Treyarch rebooted Zombies for the following title it moved to the Dark Aether continuity instead, so the Chaos crew’s story ends without a produced conclusion. It stays self-contained, sharing no characters or canon with the Aether saga it launched beside.
