Blood of the Dead’s main quest is a séance and an escape in one: Primis, trapped in the Warden’s Alcatraz purgatory, works through spirit challenges, a ghost-stolen Kronorium and the Warden’s own ritual room to reach the Dark Mechanism. The ending is one of the saga’s heaviest — Primis Richtofen gives himself to the machine to free the island’s souls, and the player finishes the fight as Great War Richtofen, risen from a hidden cryopod. Soloable; if nobody is playing Richtofen, the game supplies a bot for the finale.
Blood of the Dead sends Primis back to Alcatraz — not a remaster of Mob of the Dead but its sequel, set in the same purgatory dimension with a different crew walking into the Warden’s trap. It shipped in Black Ops 4’s launch line-up, keeps nearly all of the prison (only the Golden Gate Bridge is gone), and adds Richtofen’s secret lab beneath the island, where the Victis crew sleep in cryopods.
Two switches, not one: the Powerhouse feeds the industries side and Building 64 by the Docks covers the rest. Beyond them, scattered Voltmeters hold the map’s secrets — the residue of Mob’s Afterlife system — and only a Spirit Blast from the Spectral Shield can charge them.
Build the Spectral Shield — its third part is the Warden’s Key, dropped by the first Warden you kill — siphon souls into it, and blast the Voltmeter on the roof where Icarus once stood. The freed spirits reveal the machine, which then refuses to stay put, rotating every few rounds between the Roof, the Powerhouse and Building 64.
The Blundergat returns from the box, or free for hitting five spectral skulls with the Hell’s Retriever; the Acid Gat Kit still converts it, and the new fireplace ritual in the Warden’s House forges the Magmagat. The Spectral Shield itself is the map’s real signature — Afterlife folded into an object, with a ghost-vision camera, Spirit Blasts and a soul-siphon beam.
The Warden stalks the island as its heavy — high health, utility locks, a key drop that gates the whole map — alongside proper fog-drenched Hellhound rounds, which the original Mob never had outside Grief. Black Ops 4’s loadout perk system replaces the classic machines with generic dispensers for your four chosen perks.
A séance across the prison: spirit challenges chased by lighthouse beam, the Kronorium stolen by a ghostly seagull, the Warden’s ritual room broken open with his own EMP. It ends in a boss arena around the Dark Mechanism, and with the saga’s hardest cut: Primis Richtofen sits in the machine and gives his blood to free the island’s souls, while the player returns as Great War Richtofen from a hidden cryopod. It is fully soloable — the game even lends you a bot for the finale if no one is playing Richtofen.
Primis came for the blood vials — insurance against a breaking cycle — because Weasel’s victory in Mob of the Dead rewrote the Kronorium’s pages. They leave without their Richtofen: his older, wearier self smashes the vials, hands Nikolai the book and the burden, and points the story toward Alpha Omega, Tag der Toten, and the end of the Aether saga.
