Outbreak

Outbreak blew Zombies open: Operation Threshold sends squads into vast Ural Mountain regions — three at launch (Alpine, Ruka, Golova), growing season by season to eight, reaching as far as Algeria’s Collateral and the North Atlantic’s Armada. One main objective per region, then a beacon: exfil with your winnings, or warp deeper through a Dark Aether portal into a harder, richer region. It shipped free with Season Two for every Cold War owner.

The loop

Seven objective types rotate — Defend, Escort, Retrieve, Eliminate, Holdout, and the later Secure and Transport — with a countryside of side business between them: the soul-fed Dragon Relic, a patrolling Orda that can drop wonder weapons, locked chests, fury crystals and trial computers. Vehicles and Essence-fee jump pads shrink the distances; shooting the beacon itself skips a difficulty tier.

Pack-a-Punch and perks

Every activated beacon conjures the full toolkit around itself — Pack-a-Punch, Der Wunderfizz, Arsenal and crafting table — so the economy resets at each region’s door. Outbreak also introduced the Refined and Flawless Aetherium Crystals that cap Cold War’s skill tiers.

The two quests

Two full main quests arrived by season: "Ravenov Implications" — off-book work with Samantha Maxis and Ravenov to stop Omega’s Operatsiya Inversiya warheads, ending in the Legion boss fight — and "Entrapment", the Omega Eight defection that turns out to be Kravchenko’s trap, closing on an Orda fight, a timed exfil, and a shot-down helicopter. The strike team’s capture bridges straight into Mauer der Toten’s aftermath.

Enemies

The mode introduced the Tempest and the Krasny Soldat to the Dark Aether roster, fields Mimics disguised as loot chests, and escalates through Megatons and Abominations to the Orda — with a zombie named Ronald Raygun shuffling somewhere out there, carrying exactly what his name promises.
