The theater — the definitive beginner-friendly round-based map.
A diagram of how the areas connect. It shows routes and neighbours, not distances or shapes — it is not to scale.
Open route diagramKino der Toten is the map most players learn Zombies on. A compact, loopable theater with a central stage, an easy power switch, and a teleporter to Pack-a-Punch, it rewards clean training without punishing mistakes. Story-wise it is the Ultimis crew’s first stop after the teleporter accident at Der Riese: a Group 935 facility built into an abandoned German theater, reached in 1963.
The switch is on the theater stage. Two mirrored routes leave the lobby — one upstairs through the offices and the alleyway, one downstairs through the lounge — and both end at the theater doors, so either spend gets you there for roughly the same points. Flipping it opens the stage curtains, turns on every perk machine and trap, and wakes the teleporter.
The alleyway on the upper route carries the MP40 wall-buy, the classic reason to open that side first: 1000 points buys a weapon that comfortably carries the early rounds and pays for the rest of the doors.
Pack-a-Punch lives in the projector room, reachable only by teleporter. Step onto the pad on the stage and hold the use key to start a link, then run to the mainframe pad in the lobby and confirm it before the timer lapses. Once linked, using the teleporter costs 1500 points and sends the whole team upstairs for around thirty seconds with the machine — upgrade for 5000, then you are dropped back at the mainframe. The link must be re-armed for every trip.
Teleporting sometimes detours through a random side room for a few seconds on the way back. Grab the film reel if one is lying there — played on the projector during a later Pack-a-Punch visit, the reels screen Group 935 footage that is this map’s piece of the story. The Black Ops III remaster keeps the reels; the old mobile port dropped them.
Kino’s wonder weapon is the Thundergun, from the Mystery Box only. It fires a concussive blast that flattens entire hordes, and it Pack-a-Punches into the Zeus Cannon with more reserve ammo. Two shots per magazine and scarce reserves make it a break-glass tool: train normally, and fire only when a loop collapses.
| Perk | Cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Jugger-Nog | 2500 | First buy after power, as on every classic map |
| Quick Revive | 1500 (500 solo) | Solo version self-revives; limited to three buys |
| Speed Cola | 3000 | Second priority once points allow |
| Double Tap Root Beer | 2000 | Original Double Tap — fire rate only in Black Ops |
| Mule Kick | 4000 | Added to the map in a post-launch update |
| Der Wunderfizz (remaster) | 1500 per pull | Black Ops III version only — its pool adds Stamin-Up, Deadshot Daiquiri and Widow’s Wine |
Kino introduced the Nova gas crawlers — pale creatures that detonate into a cloud of Nova 6 on death. Never melee one, and back away from the cloud rather than sprinting through it. Hellhound rounds also return from World at War, announced by the sky darkening; hold a corner rather than a lane when the dogs come.
The map answers with the series’ best trap suite: an electric barrier at each theater entrance, an automated turret covering the stage, and the fire pit. A powered stage with both traps running kills more zombies per point than any gun you can buy, and high-round play leans on exactly that rotation.
Train the full circle of the theater floor — stage, seats, and back — and run the traps every lap once rounds pass the point where guns stop mattering. The lobby by the mainframe is the fallback loop when the theater gets crowded in co-op. Save a crawler at the end of a round to set up perk runs and box hits, keep the Thundergun for collapses, and treat the teleporter as your reset. In the Chronicles remaster, GobbleGums and the Wunderfizz perks stretch the same plan considerably further.
The Black Ops III remaster in Zombies Chronicles is the definitive way to play Kino today: the same layout and the same Ultimis crew, with the modern movement, the Black Ops III box pool, and the extra perks. Everything above applies to both versions except where marked.
