Kowakujō has an officially acknowledged main quest, which went live on 2026-06-25. Activision refers to it only as "the Main Quest" — no proper name has been published, and no first-party walkthrough exists, so the steps are not documented here.
Kowakujō is Takeo’s map: a feudal Japanese castle in a volcanic Dark Aether landscape, his childhood home rendered "like a painting created from memory." The crew lands in the Outer Ward — a dragon overhead announcing the tone — to free the final Shadowsmith, recover the World Seed, face Nyxara’s undead army, and expose the curse gripping Takeo’s soul.
The map’s wonder weapon shipped classified and was later officially named the Nekomancer. The castle fights alongside you when paid: komainu statue traps summon ghostly riflemen, while rivers of fire cut the approaches.
The Oni leads the roster — an armored elite yōkai swinging a spiked kanabō with electrified melee and ranged bolts — over Hellhounds and scorched zombies. The main quest pays the "Purified" Takeo skin, a calling card and 10,000 XP, with side diversions from an obstacle course to a stray-cat café challenge. The story concludes one map later, against the Warden himself.
