Black Ops 7 sets its whole story inside the Dark Aether, where colliding timelines strand eight people together. Any Operator can be played, but choosing a crew member unlocks additional conversations and the fullest version of the story. Nolan North, Fred Tatasciore and Steve Blum return as Richtofen, Nikolai and Dempsey; Nelson Lee debuts as Takeo, now from 16th-century feudal Japan.

The rebooted timeline starting with Black Ops Cold War, following the Requiem strike team and the Omega Group as they investigate breaches to the Dark Aether. It continues through Vanguard, MWZ, and Black Ops 6.

Launch
Zombies launched with Ashes of the Damned, the first round-based map, alongside Vandorn Farm as a Survival location and the return of Dead Ops Arcade. Standard, Survival, Cursed and a Training Course were all available from day one, and the main quest opened later the same day.

Season 01
The first seasonal map, Astra Malorum, took the crew off-world to an observatory adrift in Saturn’s rings. Directed Mode arrived for the launch map, and Mule Kick returned.
Feb 5, 2026
Season 02
A Survival-focused season: Mars opened up Astra Malorum’s boss arena, and the Cursed ruleset was extended to Survival maps. Starting Room returned as a permanent mode.

Season 02 Reloaded
Paradox Junction arrived as a temporal prison built from two Nuketowns — one intact, one obliterated — with the Blundergat returning and upgrading into the Sundergat.

Season 03
Zombie Battle introduced a free-for-all format where players share a space but fight their own hordes, and Ashwood joined the Survival rotation.

Season 03 Reloaded
Totenreich dragged a Norse fishing village and a Group 935 research base into the Dark Aether, and brought the first melee wonder weapon of the title.
