All Black Ops III Zombies Maps in Order

Black Ops III shipped one of the strongest Zombies lineups in the series. Here is every base and DLC map in release order, plus the Zombies Chronicles remasters.

Difficulty: BeginnerSpoilers: low

Black Ops III shipped six original Zombies maps across the base game and four DLC packs, then added eight remastered classics in a separate pack a year later. Fourteen maps in total, but they are not all bought the same way and they do not all belong to the same story — which is where most of the confusion comes from.

The base game and The Giant

Shadows of Evil is the only Zombies map included with a plain copy of the game. It is a large, deliberately disorienting 1940s noir map with a new cast, a ritual-based Pack-a-Punch unlock and a transformation mechanic — an ambitious opener, and not a gentle one.

The Giant is a bonus map rather than a DLC map. It is a faithful reimagining of World at War’s Der Riese, and it exists to reintroduce the original crew. It was bundled with the Season Pass and the higher-tier editions of the game, and was also sold on its own — so whether you already own it depends entirely on which edition you bought.

The four DLC maps

  • Der Eisendrache (Awakening) — an Austrian castle, the elemental bows, and the quest most players finish first. Widely considered the high point of the era.
  • Zetsubou No Shima (Eclipse) — a Pacific island research station built around plant-growing, water and a heavy buildable chain. The most divisive map of the four.
  • Gorod Krovi (Descent) — a ruined Stalingrad with dragons, the GKZ-45 Mk3, and a long, demanding main quest.
  • Revelations (Salvation) — the arc’s finale, assembled from pieces of earlier maps in the series.

All four came with the Season Pass, and each was also sold individually. Zombies Chronicles was never part of the Season Pass.

Zombies Chronicles: the eight remasters

Zombies Chronicles is a separate purchase that brings eight earlier maps into the Black Ops III engine, with its movement, GobbleGums and weapon set. The maps themselves are faithful remasters rather than reworks.

Story order, and why it differs

Release order and story order are not the same thing here. The Black Ops III maps form a continuous arc following Primis, and that arc runs: Shadows of Evil, The Giant, Der Eisendrache, Zetsubou No Shima, Gorod Krovi, Revelations. Playing them in release order therefore also plays them in story order, which is unusually tidy for this series.

The Zombies Chronicles maps are the complication. They are remasters of maps from a much earlier point in the timeline, following the original crew rather than Primis. Slotting them into the Black Ops III arc by release date makes no narrative sense — Origins in particular sits before the Black Ops III maps in the story despite arriving last.

Answers

Frequently asked questions

How many Zombies maps does Black Ops III have?

Six original maps — Shadows of Evil, The Giant, and the four DLC maps — plus eight remastered classics in Zombies Chronicles, for fourteen in total.

Is The Giant included in the base game?

No. It came with the Season Pass and the higher-tier editions, and was also sold separately. Whether you already own it depends on which edition you bought.

Does the Season Pass include Zombies Chronicles?

No. The Season Pass covers the four DLC packs — Awakening, Eclipse, Descent and Salvation. Zombies Chronicles is a separate purchase.

Should I play in release order?

For the six Black Ops III maps, yes — release order matches story order. The Zombies Chronicles remasters sit at an earlier point in the timeline and do not slot into that arc by release date.
