Ancient Evil

Ancient Evil is the Chaos story’s finale — by accident. The fourth and last map of Black Ops 4’s second storyline drops Scarlett, Diego, Bruno and Shaw into a hidden city beneath Delphi (the famous ruins above ground are, in Shaw’s words, a red herring) to rescue the Oracle from an undead warlord. It is one of the mode’s most mechanically rich maps, and its cliffhanger was never resolved: Treyarch shelved the Chaos arc when Black Ops 4’s support ended.

Two worlds

The city half runs from the Temple of Apollo spawn through the Marketplace, treasuries and Amphitheater; the dark half — River of Sorrow, Cliff Ruins, Python Pass through the body of a colossal dead serpent, and the Center of the World — is reached only on the back of Pegasus. Portals stitch the halves together once Pack-a-Punch is free.

Power and progression

Chaos maps have no power switch — perk altars work on discovery. The trigger here is the Sentinel Artifact in the Amphitheater: activate it, survive the lockdown it summons, and Pegasus arrives, the lower city opens, and the Oracle begins whispering hints.

Pack-a-Punch

Take the Golden Bridle from its pedestal — killing the six-armed Gegenees it wakes — ride Pegasus to the River of Sorrow, free the two caged eagles on the dark side, then hold the Center of the World while they reveal the machine. Until it is unlocked, the dark side does not let you leave.

The four Hands

The map’s wonder weapons are the Hands of the gods — Charon, Gaia, Hemera, Ouranos — found dormant in the world, awakened at their god’s shrine, and climbed through Fallen, Redeemed and Exalted forms via per-god quests: obols drunk from the river, seedlings, mirrors of light, zombies fired into the sky. All four at Exalted tier is one of the mode’s longest armament projects.

Enemies

Gegenees giants — six arms, sword, shield and thrown exploding spears — anchor the elite roster over Spartoi skeletons, elemental Catalysts and Blightfathers. The bosses wait at Olympus: a corrupted Pegasus, and the warlord himself.

The main quest: “Greek Tragedy”

A dozen steps of god-statue rituals, sundials and amphitheater sharpshooting open a portal to Mount Olympus, where the Zombie Warlord is revealed as Perseus — the demigod who forced the Oracle to run Delphi’s Sentinel Trial and was corrupted by it. Shoot Pegasus down, break Perseus in two phases, and the ending twists the knife: the freed Oracle is Medusa, Scarlett is left mesmerised, Shaw and Bruno are marked by the Order, and the Library of the Nine stands open. Soloable, with all four Hands and a long afternoon.
