Main Quest · Zetsubou No Shima

Seeds of Doubt

Seeds of Doubt is the main Easter egg on Zetsubou No Shima. It requires the Skull of Nan Sapwe to reveal hidden geometry, the Masamune to damage the boss, a Gas Mask for every player, and — unavoidably — the Anywhere But Here! GobbleGum to reach one of the three cogs. Expect the setup to take considerably longer than the fight.

Spoiler warning

This walkthrough reveals the map's finale. Continue only if you want to know how it ends.

Preparation

Before you start

Prerequisites

  • Power on, Pack-a-Punch drained
  • Skull of Nan Sapwe obtained
  • KT-4 upgraded to the Masamune
  • A Gas Mask for every player
  • The Anywhere But Here! GobbleGum — there is no alternative route to one cog

Walkthrough

Step by step

  1. 01

    Expose the broken generator

Mesmerize the torn blueprint in the Living Quarters, then Mesmerize the wall beside the derelict elevator.

The Skull’s Mesmerize mode reveals hidden objects as well as pacifying enemies. Reading the blueprint first is what makes the wall respond. Behind it is a generator missing three cogs.

  2. 02

    Recover the three cogs

One is hidden above Lab A, one comes from shooting down a cargo plane, and one sits on a dock under the zipline.

The Lab A cog needs the Anywhere But Here! GobbleGum. The plane is shot down with the FlaK 88 using a flak shell grown from a blue-watered plant fertilised with the KT-4 — the shell is not guaranteed, so grow several. The dock cog needs an electrified shield used on the zipline control panel to drop off mid-ride.

Tip: Any order. The plane step is the one most likely to need repeating.

  3. 03

    Repair the elevator and descend

Fit the cogs, then take the elevator down as a group.

Everyone descending needs a Gas Mask, and at least one player must be carrying the Masamune — nothing else damages the boss.

  4. 04

    Kill the Giant Thrasher

Shoot its weak-spot spores with the Masamune, four in sequence.

The weak spots are time-gated, so the encounter lasts several minutes regardless of how well you shoot. Zombies, spiders and ordinary Thrashers keep arriving throughout — someone should be handling the room rather than the boss.
