Forsaken’s main quest begins with the mission already lost: Omega’s rescue works, and Sergeant Kazimir Zykov — forty years in the Dark Aether, four centuries by its clock — steps out as the Forsaken. Requiem’s answer is a field-built Aetherium Neutralizer, assembled from a defended crystal core, an arcade cabinet’s monitoring device and an Abomination’s appetite, escorted to Town Square for a three-phase boss fight under Samantha Maxis’s covering fire. The name is exact: the entity is contained, and the price is Samantha’s freedom, Requiem’s existence, and the truth about the Director. Soloable; the reward is the Dark Ops calling card — no achievement exists.
Forsaken closes Black Ops Cold War’s Zombies out at a Soviet facility built around a lie: Test Site Anna, whose "Main Street" of diners, video stores and a cinema is a propaganda replica of an American anytown, shuttered after a 1981 incident and reopened by Omega Group for one last experiment. Requiem’s strike team arrives on Operation First Domino with a simple brief — reach Sergeant Kazimir Zykov before Omega pulls him out of the Dark Aether — and the map is the story of that brief going as wrong as a brief can go.
Uniquely for the era, there is no power step at all — the facility’s lights are on from the first round, and every perk machine works on arrival. Progress is gated instead by a chain of teleporters between areas and a security lockdown lifted from the Observation Tower.
The machine waits in the Observation Tower at the end of the teleporter chain — no build steps, just the journey through Checkpoint, Main Street, both halves of Anytown and the bunker complex. The tower’s radiation keeps visits brief; ziplines run back down to the town.
The Chrysalax is two weapons sharing one soul: the Savager, an Aetherial battle-axe with a throwable spinning blade, and the Storm, a rapid-fire energy mode whose kills feed the axe and vice versa. It comes from the box, Trials, or a build quest whose parts drop from a donut-shop defence, an Abomination’s beam, and a Tormentor killed with fire. The lore says it was forged by an entity of the Dark Aether specifically to kill the thing this map is about.
All eleven Cold War perks stand on one map for the first time, including PhD Slider’s debut machine in the tower and Death Perception’s first dedicated dispenser at spawn. Down in Anytown West, the arcade takes its own currency of tokens, and the era’s new ARC-XD — a remote-control explosive car — squeezes through vents the crew cannot.
The Abomination debuts here: a three-headed charging horror first met in the Amplifier, its open mouths the only honest targets. Nearly the full Dark Aether bestiary joins it — Manglers, Mimics, Disciples, Tempests, Tormentors, Plaguehounds — and the boss fight adds Krasny Soldats to the queue.
Omega’s rescue succeeds, and that is the catastrophe: Zykov steps out of the gateway as the Forsaken, the entity four subjective centuries in the Dark Aether made of him. The quest builds an Aetherium Neutralizer from scavenged parts — an arcade cabinet’s monitoring device among them — escorts it to Town Square, and fights a three-phase boss battle under covering fire from Samantha Maxis, who ends it by forcing the Forsaken into Omega’s own containment chamber at the price of her own freedom. Soloable; the reward is a Dark Ops calling card, not an achievement.
The ending is the saga’s coldest: the entity is crated off to Blacksite 13, the Outbreak zones collapse worldwide, and the Requiem senior staff are arrested one by one on the orders of their own Director — revealed, at last, as Edward Richtofen. An epilogue five years on shows a scarred Peck hiring a boat into the Pacific, looking for old friends. Black Ops 6 picks up every one of those threads.
