Main Quest

Salvation Lies Above

The last Aether quest — its name and achievement both quote the writing on Nacht der Untoten’s wall — has Victis bargain with a tank of Apothicon Elder God blood aboard the wrecked Tugarin, purify the Seal of Duality through every Pack-a-Punch on the map, and escort the finished piece across a Siberia turned to lava. The Agarthan Device goes up the Hermit’s pulley; Pablo Marinus remembers his own name and ascends to the Great War; and the ending poisons, shoots and releases a decade of story at one campfire. Soloable, and gentler mechanically than any finale before it.

The full write-up

Tag der Toten is where a decade of Zombies storytelling goes to die — deliberately, at its own hand, in the Siberian cold. The final Aether map returns to Call of the Dead’s lighthouse and shipwrecks in a pocket dimension, hands the controls back to Victis — awake at last from the Alcatraz cryopods — and asks them to build the machine that ends the Multiverse. Above the lighthouse, in his only physical appearance, waits the Hermit: Pablo Marinus, the test subject whose visions started everything.

Three switches

Power is split three ways — the Docks, the wrecked Tugarin’s bridge, and the Human Infusion lab in the Group 935 mountain facility, itself reachable only after the Hermit hands down a zipline handle. The freezing water between areas slows and then freezes anyone who lingers.

Pack-a-Punch by lighthouse beam

A blue rock hauled up the Hermit’s pulley turns the lighthouse into the map’s pointer: the machine materialises wherever the beam shines, rotating between beach, lagoon, sunken path and boathouse. Sometimes the beam swings out to an offshore iceberg — riding the Flinger there reaches the Golden Pack-a-Punch, which maxes a weapon in one transaction while zombies pour endlessly from the ice.

An armoury of farewells

The map hoards wonder weapons like a museum: the debuting Tundragun freezing where its ancestor blew, the scoped Wunderwaffe DG-Scharfschütze, the Thundergun freed from an Ascension Group chest for completing every Challenge Totem, Samantha’s Music Box summoning a spectral girl to fight for you, and snowballs a long quest turns golden and lethal at any round.

The main quest: “Salvation Lies Above”

Named for the writing on Nacht’s wall, the quest bargains with a tank of Apothicon Elder God blood aboard the Tugarin, purifies the Seal of Duality through every Pack-a-Punch on the map, and ends by escorting the finished piece through a world turned to lava. The completed Agarthan Device goes up the pulley to the Hermit — who remembers his name, and ascends to the Great War to close his own loop. Soloable, and gentler in its mechanics than any finale before it.

The end of the Aether story

The Device destroys the Summoning Key and banishes everything the Aether spawned — the Apothicons, the pocket dimensions, Monty himself — into the Dark Aether, Victis included, abandoned by the voice that guided them. At the last campfire, Nikolai poisons both crews’ celebratory drinks as a mercy, shoots the undead Richtofen poison cannot touch, and hands Samantha his revolver for the final kindness. She and young Eddie walk out of the dark into an uncorrupted universe: the exact doorstep of Black Ops Cold War, and a better tomorrow, secured.
