Der Riese rebuilt for Black Ops III with a new Primis story encounter.
A diagram of how the areas connect. It shows routes and neighbours, not distances or shapes — it is not to scale.
Open route diagramThe Giant is Der Riese rebuilt for Black Ops III — same factory, same teleporters, new timeline. It shipped at the game’s launch as a bonus map for special editions and season-pass holders, and its opening cutscene is one of the most consequential minutes in the saga: the Primis crew arrive by teleporter, and Primis Richtofen shoots his own Ultimis self dead where he stands, splitting the story into the paradox everything after runs on.
The bones are Der Riese’s, unchanged: the power switch on the courtyard generator, three teleporters to link against a thirty-second timer, and Pack-a-Punch behind the mainframe blast door once all three are home. New to this version, a re-Pack for 2,500 cycles an upgraded gun through Black Ops III’s ammo effects — Dead Wire, Turned, Fireworks and kin.
The Wunderwaffe DG-2 sits in the Mystery Box from launch, chaining lightning exactly as it did in 1945 — this and the Chronicles remasters are its only Black Ops III homes. The box shares it with the Ray Gun and Monkey Bombs, and completing the map’s secret adds Richtofen’s Annihilator revolver to a furnace in the garage.
Five machines spawn each game — Jugger-Nog, Quick Revive, Speed Cola, Double Tap II and Mule Kick — shuffled among the original Der Riese perk spots. A sixth, Stamin-Up or Deadshot Daiquiri, hides behind a secret: teleport a Monkey Bomb through each linked teleporter, press the revealed button, and the giant robot outside melts a snowbank with its eye-beam to uncover the machine. GobbleGums and the full 2065 wall-buy arsenal round out the modernisation.
The Fly Trap returns, retitled Paradoxical Prologue and re-voiced: shoot the alley panel with a Pack-a-Punched weapon and it is Ludvig Maxis, not Samantha, who answers. Find and shoot his three hidden objects and Maxis lights his beacon — "sooner or later, I will find you" — with the Annihilator waiting in the furnace as the tangible reward. The three spine-filled jars are here too, playing a remix of "Beauty of Annihilation".
For Primis, The Giant is the first stop after Origins — a jump from 1918 to October 1945, arriving at the factory at the exact moment of the original betrayal. Killing Ultimis Richtofen bends the timeline; lighting Maxis’s beacon tells a disembodied voice exactly where and when they are. Both debts come due across the rest of Black Ops III, starting at a certain Austrian castle.
